Bruce Pearlâs starting lineup change was due to an âin-houseâ issue
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said the reason he changed his starting lineup in an eventual 84-54 win over Alabama A&M was due to an “in-house” issue, during his postgame press conference.
He did not specify what the issue was.
Typical starting shooting guard Denver Jones and typical starting center Johni Broome did not start Tuesday’s game. In their place, Pearl started both of his top point guards — Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson — as well as center Dylan Cardwell in Broome’s spot.
Jones entered the game for the first time at the 16:55 to go mark in the first half and Broome joined the game for the first time with 15:52 to play in the first half.
Pearl only used that starting combination of five at the beginning of the game until Jones subbed in and he also started that same combination of five in the second half. Broome and Jones both subbed into the game with 17:50 to play in the second half.
Broome is Auburn’s leading scorer this year averaging 16.8 points per game. He scored 10 points along with five rebounds off the bench against Alabama A&M and played 21 minutes for the game.
Jones played 17 minutes and scored eight points. He’s averaging 8.8 points per game this season.
